Vesce clinches the deal
There is nothing like a resort that has a lodge and accommodations constructed in part or in whole with logs. Whether it is in French Polynesia, the Rocky Mountains, the Caribbean or the European Alps; there is something about log cabin buildings that give guests a warm and cozy feeling.
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge® resort in Orlando, Florida, constructed with appointments as a log lodge is an example of a very successful resort using the log cabin theme.
Why? When someone stays at a resort with a log cabin theme; they not only talk about what they did but they also talk about where they slept.
No other type of construction can make this claim.
Further, from a resort operator’s standpoint; the revenue per night in a log cabin theme room is up to 50% more than a similar room in a masonry constructed building with gypsum walls.
This is true even in RV campgrounds that rent out one room cabins.
Building on Log Cabin Home’s years of success in supplying resorts worldwide, recently retired Log Cabin Homes President Tom Vesce wasted no time in pursuing his passion of log cabin resorts.
Vesce is collaborating with Italian designer Katerina Valenotti to bring selected European design elements and ideas to American resorts.
Making a presentation and sharing ideas with a group of Italians on their home turf was no easy task for Vesce.
New York City born and bred Vesce speaks and understands very little Italian even though his ancestry is Italian and French.
Vesce used his Eagle Scout training and came very well prepared for his big meeting with the Italians.
First he enlisted relative Gaetano Vesce who speaks five languages fluently to interpret and translate his New York style English language to the Italians. He also brought with him a stash of books that he would reveal if he couldn’t get his message across to the Italians.
After hours of food, many espressos and much discussion; Vesce tried to convince the Italians that just a pure European resort style in America will not work. He said over and over again “as you say, when in Rome do as the Romans do; I say when in America do as the Americans do”. The response of the Italians was consistently smiles, laughter and some Italian words that no one would translate… not even Gaetano.
Finally, Vesce took out his stash of books giving out a copy to each titled “In America Si Fa Cosi” (In America you do it this way). The book written in Italian for Italians to understand the customs and ways in America that are similar and dissimilar than those in Italy.
That night, not only did Vesce finally convince the Italians to do business the American Way, but he also had everyone agree to adopt the book title “In America Si Fa Cosi” as the motto and charge of the Italian collaboration for the American resort business, thus clinching the deal.
